This is my journal documenting an ongoing creative endeavor sustained by a single underlying current with 100 momentary breaks, each indicated by an individual porcelain cup which reveals both continuity and uniqueness in the way the pot is thrown, the handle is pulled and wrapped,
and the form is carved and sculpted. Each piece is photographed in its raw
porcelain clay state before being fired or glazed. If you would like to follow the progression from Cup #1, scroll down and click "Older Posts" or begin at the Blog Archive "2010", "March".

Cup # 13....two sides

Base is carved into a new angle, sweeping up, turning down and ending with a tucked seed. Handle vine curves and embraces seeds then opens to folds and seeds. Thin extra vine (still damp and rescued from the discard pile!) is added to large vine handle on one side....(front side for the left handed!)

Cup #12

Handle vine splits open and folds and seeds emerge. Base petals open in a new variation.

Cup #11

Stylized Art Nouveau leaf attaches itself to the cup and wraps onto the handle vine.
Seeds tuck and cluster. Base petals enfold a tender spot...

Scrap pieces

Scrap pieces....a dried pile up of discarded handles, pieces cut from the cup base, and wads of clay from which the seeds are pinched off and rolled.

Cup #10

A sudden shift!....the handle vine loops and turns into a large tightly clinging leaf that wraps and fuses into the cup....Base pattern relates to the movement in the pattern of the leaf.... small leaf drapes over handle and makes a resting place...

Cup #9

Working with the same elements...just a different combination...9 siblings...

Cup #8

Variation in combination of previous themes...(bear with me...a change will come)....

Cup #7

Base repeats, vine lengthens and moves along side the draping leaf, seeds cling and tuck...

Cup #6

Bird rests in the curve of the vine and gazes up, cup itself opens into petals at the base, vine tenderly wraps back on itself and reaches....

And on to....Cup #3

And then....Cup #2

The idea for this series came to me at cup #10. The idea of a blog came to me around cup #16. One digital camera and a consultation with my blog builder, Amory, later and I have digital images of the first 25 cups in the series. They will begin to appear one by one, in the order from which they emerged on this blog...soon....
